We’ve grown up in an era where toothpaste comes packaged in a tube, and we can’t tell what’s in it.

It’s almost impossible to imagine how our ancestors survived without all these commercial products.

Luckily, we still have some tribes worldwide who still use natural products to clean their teeth.

If you’ve ever wondered why some African men and women have white teeth, this is because they use Miswak stick. Miswak is an organic toothbrush that fights oral cavities, gets rid of bad breath and whitens teeth!

In my native countries, Kenya, the Samburu, Turkana, and the Maasai use Miswak sticks to clean their teeth.

Also, as it turns out, we can easily use many other products to do homemade toothpaste easily.

The following is easy to make and simple homemade toothpaste, totally affordable, and best of all works like magic!

  • Activated charcoal may help remove surface stains on your teeth. Charcoal is mildly abrasive and is also able to absorb surface stains to some degree.
  • Arrowroot is gentle on teeth than pure baking soda, and you can buy it in the supermarket or online thru Amazon.
  • Diatomaceous earth clay helps to remove plaque and calculus (tartar), help prevent or improve gum disease and gingivitis (gum inflammation). And the best part is that it is safe for both children and adults (as with all supplements, double-check with your doctor first!
  • Stevia helps fight plaque.
  • Pink Himalayan salt can help remove bacteria from the teeth and gums, which helps prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar.
  • Peppermint oil is an effective way to reduce plaque and help clean the teeth and gums while also helping oral health in other ways. Rinsing with diluted peppermint oil can solve bad breath or bad tastes in the mouth.
